The Israelites were the first people in the Middle East to recognize the one God, Who, through His messenger Moses, set high standards of morality for them. When they fell into idolatry and immorality, the Hebrew prophets railed against them and warned of their punishment.

However, the Hebrew prophets also foretold events of the far future, such as the coming of Jesus, Muhammad, and Bahá’u’lláh, and the establishment of the modern state of Israel.
